As bassist, solo artist and clinician (MTD Basses, Gallien-Kruger, Maranatha! Music, Integrity Music), Norm Stockton travels extensively throughout North America, Europe and Japan. He currently tours and records with worship artist Lincoln Brewster. In addition, Norm’s acclaimed bass instructional DVD series, “Grooving for Heaven”, has been distributed extensively in the United States and abroad. We had a chance to catch up with Norm and ask him about his GK rig. Here is what he shared:
For everything from thunderous rock stuff in arenas to stunningly clear and punchy slap grooves in jazz clubs, my Gallien-Krueger rig never fails to perform brilliantly. I also love the fact that I can simply bring along the 1001RB and a single Neo 112 cabinet for small local gigs and it has tone and headroom to spare. The 12’s are simply amazing, by the way. I was a lways into 10” speakers for their quickness and tightness (and the G-K Neo 410 does sound awesome), but these 12’s deliver all of what I loved about 10’s while also being much better equipped for fretless work (or anything else requiring really musical mid’s). These are incredibly versatile speaker cabinets. |

As a bonus, they also weigh significantly less than any of my previous cabs, which makes working in town much more enjoyable! I am constantly receiving emails from people who’ve come to a concert or clinic and were floored by the tone of the G-K gear. It’s always a treat to be able to tell them that my rig retails for about 1/3 the cost of my previous rig, sending the bang-for-the-buck factor through the roof. I’m not on Gallien-Krueger’s payroll, and I purchased my rig. I didn’t become a GK user based upon endorsement quotes from high-profile players (although there’s certainly no shortage of them). I simply plugged in and played for a minute or two back in 2004, and haven’t stopped loving it since. So please…instead of taking my word (or anyone else’s) for it, I urge you to go play through one yourself. Your ears will provide the most compelling case of all.” Norm Stockton |
